The organization’s primary data center, housed in an older building at its U.S. headquarters in Massachusetts, suffered from space, power and cooling constraints. Additionally, IFAW was looking to upgrade its technology infrastructure to continue to effectively manage increasing global business demands.
This contest provides students with remote access to mainframes via cloud computing methods for them to learn and perform a series of progressively challenging exercises, done in the classroom, at home, or anywhere access to the Internet is available. This is a task that otherwise takes weeks and months to complete manually, but can be done rapidly using this new technology.
Over the past year, HP and Paul McCartney’s MPL Communications, Ltd. worked closely to design, deploy and maintain a private cloud-based digital library that catalogs and stores more than a million items from McCartney’s expansive personal collection, which spans more than five decades.
These activities cover Cognos, SPSS and many best practices and tips integrated and tailored by the China Development Lab, and this analytics curriculum is planned to be replicated to six other Chinese universities in the future. Some of the early analytics projects underway at the university level were inspired by IBM’s Watson technology – the most advanced analytics technology currently available.
